2000 years of history is waiting under the street
make the square the historic soul of the city again
Romans, bishops and emperors ruled over Utrecht for two thousand years. Layer after layer, the foundations of the city had been built on the remains of the first Roman fort. But the storm of 1674 and 300 years of governments left behind an empty and windy square for the citizens of Utrecht.
That is the task that the Domplein 2013 initiative has set itself. With an annual exhibition in Aorta, the Utrecht Architecture Centre, and a growing stream of activities, visualizations and experiences, the square is slowly but surely coming back to life. Tinker is actively working with them to create this new history. As a start this summer we produced the Aorta exhibition and productions on the square itself. (ongoing project)
