bringing the Battle for Arnhem to life

designed in shock

65 years after the biggest airborne landing in history, the Airborne Museum found itself in need of a facelift. Tinker was given the challenge to bring the famous battle back to life in the new 900m2 basement. The Airborne Experience became an innovative happening that plunges the visitor into the cataclysmic events of the time. Like the opening scene in Saving Private Ryan, but this time in 3D.

Historical artillery, smashed decors and overwhelming images: a trip through the Airborne Experience is an experience that cannot easily be captured in text and pictures. All your senses are engaged and the sets are strongly evocative. The visitor gets to experience the Battle for Arnhem subjectively; as a participant, as if he had just spent five days fighting in it, as if it is part of his own life memories. The historical material is interwoven everywhere with special effects to achieve the greatest possible measure of realism to the experience.

Most important result: the compliments we received from dozens of veterans…

Winner of the Gouden Reiger 2009, finalist IDEA award 2010 and nominated for the Rob de Bes award 2010, TourNED award 2010, European Museum Academy award 2011 en de Museum of the Year award 2011.
