After Srebrenica, 9/11 and two wars, the theme of peace and security are well and truly on the agenda again. And not only in politics – it’s also very much a live issue for the public. That’s not so strange, at a time when our own soldiers are in harm’s way in remote countries. The involvement of the Netherlands in flare-ups and hotbeds across the world demands difficult decisions from the government. For this reason it demands well thought-out and executed public relations. And because the average citizen would also like to know what “we” are actually doing in Iraq and Afghanistan. This is the way that consensus and engagement are created. In short: there is an important story to tell.
A country estate of 70 hectares of woodland, with old pillboxes disguised as little farmhouses and monumental avenues. A theme park is being developed here, together with a visitors’ centre and an exhibition space to describe current events. The key focus is on personal stories from conflict situations. What has motivated these people to be willing to give up their lives, what have they witnessed, and what have they gone through? Insight is also provided into the Netherlands armed forces’ activities and performance. Tinker designed a concept for the layout, and managed the implementation phase (ongoing project).
