Paul Verhoeven directed Zwartboek (“Black Book”); an epic tale set in The Hague during World War II. It is the biggest Dutch movie production ever and the first Dutch film by Verhoeven since he left for the United States in the late 1980’s.
Thom Hoffman plays one of the leading roles in Zwartboek. In addition, he used his skills as a professional photographer to make a set report during film production.
We collaborated with Thom Hoffman and the Filmmuseum to create an exhibition on Zwartboek. Here’s a chance to get a look behind the scenes of the film, from the historical sources to the production itself. Besides Hoffman’s photos, the original storyboards, concept art, props and film fragments are also on display. You can also watch an exclusive interview with Verhoeven and scriptwriter Soeteman.
