a stately manor house in search of a story
an intimate look behind the scenes
The Rijssens Museum is home to a collection that could really tell the story of Rijssen’s turbulent past. Explosive growth & age-old traditions, powerful industrialists & bitter poverty: ingredients enough for a unique experience. But how can they be brought alive? Tinker was asked to develop a new permanent exhibition. An extra challenge: create the perfect place for four hundred irons.
We follow the citizens of all the times of Rijssen in their daily struggle for life. Jute weavers, farmers, peat cutters, washmaids and brickmakers offer an intimate look at their lives at work and home. The collection is not only uniquely presented; it plays a key role in the experience. A cleverly thought-out spatial design, some poetic ideas and audio do the rest. Even the irons work perfectly.
