negotiating with nature
visually and as a story
Nature reserves De Wieden and De Weerribben are the result of centuries-long negotiating between man and nature. Whatever man demanded from the land or whatever way they used it, nature always responded differently. Now, with just one glance at the nature reserve one can recognise all these historical developments.
Let the visitor’s centre tell you the stories of man and nature. About landlords and dredgers, wind and weather, storks and marsh marigolds. Inside the centre, ‘outside' becomes palpable as a prelude to the visit to the outside area. When it came to the layout we were inspired by the environment, both when selecting the material and when choosing the open structures that put the layered landscape in perspective.
