ancient stories
new forms
Between the villages of Vleuten and Haarzuilens, Natuurmonumenten (National Heritage) has developed a stretch of new nature: the Wielrevelt. It lies right in the middle of an ancient area with a rich history. Natuurmonumenten asked Tinker to create an experience path that incorporates these historical tales. How did we go about it? We didn’t want information stands and other big objects taking up space. More often than not, these just interfere with the beautiful landscape that they ought to recommend. But which options remain for telling your story?
Using gravel, concrete, tree trunks and weathering steel, we invented forms that merge into their surroundings but at the same time add a story and visual element. Short historical and poetic texts are incorporated into the objects, illustrate history and create atmosphere. Whoever goes out for a walk along the Wielrevelt won’t just come across the odd hare or northern harrier, he or she risks learning something new. About, say, the Iron Age, or church paths.
