a new village on the vecht…

…the netherlands’ most beautiful river

The bend of the River Vecht at Maarssen was known for a century as the place where DSM’s quinine factory stood. And for that reason the only ugly spot along a beautiful river. But recently it’s been known for being the largest soil cover reclamation project in the Netherlands and Op Buuren, a whole new village, is rising up there. Op Buuren is being built entirely following the tradition for the Vecht region. In authentic style, with much variation, green and in keeping with nearby villages. ‘Vecht Vision’, the policy document produced by the Belvédère project agency and the Vecht Lakes Commission, is being used as the guiding principle. The village will consist of three sectors, each with their own character, and has already become a trendsetter in 21st century project development.

A charming landscape has already been created there, but there’s nothing to be seen of the village yet. So Kondor Wessels asked Tinker to develop and implement the area communication for the project. We’re letting people see what it’s like to live in Op Buuren, even before the designs and houses are ready. What makes this place so special? What is there to do in the area? What can the developers do to also give the village a character and identity of its own, and how do we ensure people’s attention is held as well as attracted? These are the problems that Tinker’s tackling. You’ll see the solutions in the course of the coming years in the form of publications, routes, events and more. (ongoing project)
