The reconstruction of agriculture in the sandy areas of the country is changing the landscape, economy and people’s lives in five provinces. A national campaign was needed to bring the Reconstruction to the attention of the rest of the Netherlands and to create a positive image of the process and the results. It also needed to ensure that outsiders would experience for themselves the élan and scope of the changes taking place in the countryside.
A series of Reconstruction Festivals is revealing the changes taking place in the five ‘sand provinces’ of Limburg, Brabant, Gelderland, Utrecht and Overijssel. Connecting them with national politics and major first results ensures newsworthiness, while unique performances and an extensive programme of recreational activities attracts a wide public. The ‘Sand Country Buffet’ not only provides good food and drinks, but also allows people to meet those involved with the Reconstruction face to face. Inspiration guaranteed. (ongoing project)
