the task

the challenge

the result

To turn the old military museum Bronbeek into a Dutch East Indies Reminiscence Centre. A place where the Indo community can look back upon the past, commemorate and look ahead. But also a place where army veterans can tell and find their stories.

To create a single exhibition that does justice to the history and the emotions of two very different groups, while remaining accessible to a broader public.

A completely new public presentation of the 350 year history of the Dutch East Indies, constructed in many layers, each of which tells history in its own unique way. The combination of design, collections, history, infographics, personal testimonies, film, audio, animation and literary fragments all cohere to form a penetrating story which is far from finished.
