how do you unearth the history of flevoland?

make everyone an archaeologist

The brand new Erfgoedcentrum Nieuwland (New Land Heritage Centre) in Lelystad tells the story of the past of the Netherlands’ youngest province. Not only do the pioneers of the last century play a role, but also the hunters, Romans and robber barons from much longer ago. Their forts, battlefields and ships can be found just under the ground, which not so long ago had been the sea bottom. Tinker was asked to develop a permanent exhibit for children about the unique archaeology of Flevoland.

In the middle of the new museum, an archaeological dig is underway. The remains from 50, 500 and 5,000 years ago are to be found there. But they are lying under a thick layer of sand, so it will take some searching. Above the excavation a laboratory has been built, where children research everything from the age of wood to a dead person’s name. Children soon become archaeologists themselves in an interactive exhibit without software, but with real Flevo-sand.
