peace and security are at the top of the agenda

vrijland is the first theme park dedicated to them

After Srebrenica, 9/11 and two wars, the theme of peace and security are well and truly on the agenda again. And not only in politics – it’s also very much a live issue for the public. That’s not so strange, at a time when our own soldiers are in harm’s way in remote countries. The involvement of the Netherlands in flare-ups and hotbeds across the world demands difficult decisions from the government. For this reason it demands well thought-out and executed public relations. And because the average citizen would also like to know what “we” are actually doing in Iraq and Afghanistan. This is the way that consensus and engagement are created. In short: there is an important story to tell.

An estate of 70 hectares of forest land, with old pillboxes disguised as farm houses, and monumental lanes. This is the backdrop for the theme park, the visitors’ centre and an exposition area for current affairs. At the centre stage are personal accounts of conflict situations. What moves people to be willing to sacrifice their lives and what did they go through? Insight is provided into the activities and achievements of the Dutch armed forces. Tinker designed the layout and supervises the realization phase (ongoing project).
