Imagineering involves tinkering with fantasy. A systematic way of working, with inspiration as its starting point. The term was coined by Walt Disney, who put it into practice on a massive scale.
Imagineering can be conceived as rising and falling motion in a design cycle. It begins with a problem for which a creative solution needs to be found. By following all the steps, a solution is created that literally speaks to the imagination. Whether it’s a flying elephant, a talking duck, or the blueprint for a new organization.
The rising motion is the inspiration phase. First the problem is described and placed in a free context. This free context enables the problem to be transformed into an idea. This means that all the elements of the problem become components of the solution. Imagineering is an inclusive creativity technique, in contrast to ‘out of the box’ thinking techniques.
The falling motion is the realization phase. This is when design, project planning and implementation happen. It is a falling motion because the abstract idea condenses into a tangible solution. First the idea is brought into vision. If it’s a good one, it will appeal to stakeholders with a diversity of interests. If it doesn’t, it’s not a good idea. The cycle can then begin again with the inclusion of the new interests.
Finally it is placed in a fixed and binding context. This allows the feasibility and strength of the solution to be tested and realized. The last step is the implementation and execution phase. All the various characteristics of the idea are revealed in this phase, making it an essential component of the creative process. Inspirational processes
The outcome of this phase is an idea. Tinker works with those involved in a project to help them get to the single best solution. We pay close attention to the inspirational aspect of the process, because enthusiasm is vital for innovation. We use a wide range of techniques and instruments to do this, many of which we have developed ourselves.
Creative products
A good idea is glad to be born. But professional help with the birth process and introducing it to the world is welcome. Tinker makes ideas tangible, and disseminates them in the widest possible range of media – from policy papers to meetings, and from digital media to theatrical performances.
Effective results
Tinker directs and organizes the realization of ideas. Since we usually create ideas that haven’t existed before, we’re often the appropriate party to do this. We often support our clients as art director or project manager. In this way we ensure that the idea is realized according to the pre-agreed quality specifications.
Enlightening services
The outcome of this phase is a clear restatement of the task and the objectives. Tinker inventorizes the interests and intentions associated with the task using desk research, in meetings and with brainpower. We can deal with subjects in a wide variety of areas.
